“Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”
Dr. Seuss

It takes time to get used to something new. A time when I got used to something new in my life was when I went to sleep away camp for the first time. In the book Moby Dick Herman Melville Ishmael had continuous new and enlightening experiences as he tries to get on a whaling ship. Camp was an entirely new experience for me just like New Bedford was for Ismael. I had never been away from home for an extended period of time without my parents. It was my first day of camp and I had just arrived at drop off. I didn’t know a single person there. A little while after we arrived we got introduced to our counselors. They then took us back to our cabin and we made our beds and everything. Some kids who had been at camp for a while helped me make my bed and I thanked them. I then became friends with these people with which made my day, and camp experience a lot better.Once I had made friends relatively quickly the rest of camp flew by. Making those friends and getting used to something new is probably the reason I still go back to camp today. The people I first made friends with I am still friends with today and they were a big part in helping me love camp. This experience is just like Ishmael’s trying to make friends on The Pequod and in New Bedford. Ishmael needed to get to know people if he was going to be able to survive in New Bedford, Nantucket, and the ocean. New things are always hard but if you can get used to them easily, you can have a much better time

Happiness through ignorance

A reason for choice

— Mark Twain

If you had a choice to be happy and ignorant or wise, which would you be? This is a question asked by many people but hardly ever answered. Although being wise is important and gets you somewhere in life, being happy is much more important and is the basis for doing what you want for the rest of your life. If you can have a happy attitude about life then you are set. If you are wise but not necessarily happy then you have a set couple of things you can do and be happy with in your life. Also if I was ignorant, I could ignore things that would make me unhappy if I was wise. If I was wise then these things would trouble me as I pondered them. Also, people might come to me to ask advice about these things what ever they may be, an I would have to answer them out of my wisdom. It is hard to be wise about everything while not necessarily being happy so I would definitely rather be ignorant and happy.
