Gulivers Travels

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

I feel like the best things to receiver are the ones You can’t expect.. Gulivers Travels, by Jonathan Swift, amazed me with all of the plot twists and fantasizing. The author has pleased me with his fictional writing and at the same time has stuck to a plot. During Gulivers first journey, he encounters people who are the size of his palm and use him for warfare. He the ends up sailing back to England and then soon after on an other ship. On this ship he goes to a remote island where he disembarks but the whole ship leaves him behind. He is then left on an island with huge grass fields with gargantuas monsters, but friendly ones. I did not expect that this story would be any thing like this; I expected it to be a non fiction story regarding Gulivers real travels; instead, it’s an interesting story about fictional voyages and journeys. I used to hate reading fantasy stories, but not with Gulivers Travels. I love when I’m either surprised or amazed by something. I didn’t expect to be amazed by Gulivers Travels, but I am.

“Hockey players have fire in their hearts and ice in their veins.”

Potential, a word that can mean many different things. In my world it means to have the ability to achieve something in the future; and that is exactly what my hockey team has. Being on a youth hockey team might not mean a lot to many, people but not for our team. Our team takes it seriously and takes it upon themselves to be ready to play to their best ability when needed.

Gulivers Travels

Reading Experience

over the last couple of days I have been reading Gulivers Travels. I read bout 30 min a day out of school and as much as I can in school. This book is a tough read for me but a good read. I have learned s9 many new vocabulary words and I have also enjoyed the story so far. I have just finished part of the story where I learned of Gulivers childhood and his experience on many voyages. The meat of part one was based around Guliver getting caught in a storm on a ship with many men to then getting on a small life boat which capsizes. Guliver is left alone on an island and wakes to see people called lilputs. During part 1 I experienced the Fantasy of Jonathan Swift’s mind. I’m usually not to fond of fiction and fantasy but for some reason which I have yet to figure out I did enjoy it. Lilliputian are very small people who aren’t afraid of  using violence against Guliver becuase their arrows only feel like pinpricks to Guliver. Guliver also eats more than 1000 Lilliputians. After feeding Guliver they even find themselves on the risk of famine. Guliver is then used for war by the Lilliputians. Because of his size he is their strongest weapon. The Lilliputians are fighting the Blefuscu. I don’t want to get into all the details and spoil it but in the end Guliver finds his way bacl to England and his first travel is over. I’m very excited to read the rest of this sorry and join Guliver on his second adventure.

CCYH Hockey

Our Season (so far)

This year I’m playing on the Bantom  B team for CCYH. This was my second year involved in CCYH hockey and my first year in Bantom B. Our first team practice was way back in late August. It’s been a long ride so far for our team suffering from a lot of adversity and injuries. CCYH doesn’t t have a home rink so most of our games are filled with away team fans and colors. CCYH has also never been fortunate anought have extremely skilled players on their teams. This season things changed. The Bantom B team started off 0-3 this was not only uninspiring to the players but to the fans. So the week later we had three practices and we talked a out what needed to happen for us to start wining. Soo enough we started winning and we were winning a lot. We went on a hot streak holding off teams to our best ability. We were the hardest hitting, most passionate and sooner enough the number one team in our division standing at 12-3. Our team put in a lot of effort towards the hockey season. Yesterday we played against Cambridge. Cambridge was tied for second place with Melrose. We knew this was going to be an important game for us and we didn’t show up at all. Our defense was sloppy our passing was mediocre and our effort wasn’t there. Our team knew we should have won’t that game and we didn’t. So I, going to assume this week will be filled with some discipline and strenuous drills to get us back into the swing of things. The season is far from over but having momentum going into the post season is very important. Especially in a team sport. I and many other players on the team are expecting a lot out of everyone on the team to perform at their best ability at every game and hopefully that’s what we will receive next week.
