”Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by”

~ Robert Frost

The World is filled with varieties of different people and places and there is countless different cultures and communities. I have only been out of Country once. I went to Ecuador for a few days before going on a boat to visit the Galápagos Islands. Just from being in a different country I realize that it is extraordinarily different from the place I live in now. The people, setting and culture was completely different. It is hard to travel to these places and be prepared to positively adapt to the new culture and a new place. Am I prepared to travel the World?

Every place is different and is populated with different people. I live in a place where I am privileged. I have the opportunity to go to great schools, eat as much food as I would like, and have kind people surrounding me. If I were to go to a place that is significantly less privileged than me, I don’t think I would be prepared. I wouldn’t know what to do or how to adapt to that place because it is so much more different than where I live now. It would be difficult to become accustomed to the things that they don’t have. Being so privileged blinds us from the rest of the World and how we see things. We don’t realize how other people barley can get enough food or water, but for us that just a habit. Learn to expand your knowledge of the world; became familiar with somewhere outside of where you live.

I don’t want to be blind. I want to see the World clearly. My life is covered with  glasses blocking out the light of the rest of the World. I want to take those off and see the world around me not just the area I am in. The world is filled with differences and I want to be apart of those differences; I want to make a difference. I don’t just want to be seen as I get everything handed to me, I want to explore, observe, and connect to people around the World. I want to expand my knowledge of culture and privilege around the World. People need to understand that there is so much more around you. That what you see is not all of what there is. Take off the blindfold and explore the world.

Expand and explore your knowledge of the outside world. Become apart of a new culture; make a difference.  There is so much more out there, what you see is not what there is. Thousands of places cultures and communities far different that yours. Take a step into a new land. Learn about places and things you are not familiar with because you are not the World.

Become apart of something your not.
