I wandered as lonely as a cloud....
by William Wordsworth
Being alone can help and hurt
~Jake F.
Being alone can help and hurt. Feeling alone and feeling like an outsider can help you but it can do the opposite. Feeling alone can hurt you but it can make you reflect on yourself. It can make you realize what is happening around you and what is making you feel the way you are. I know this poem has the theme of being alone because of one block of text, the text refers to a man laying on his couch staring off into space and feeling alone in a “pensive” mood. He is resting at night and feeling down and wanting to feel free like a cloud.
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
The poem goes back to feeling sad and alone while wanting to feel free and just wanting to float through life. The poem is a great poem to show the bad parts of life. The parts of life where you are just thinking about how good life could be while you are sitting alone staring off thinking about it. The poem contains a couple instances in the poem where you realize how being alone really makes you think about how fast life goes by, and what it can do to you once you step back and realize it. Being alone can help you realize many things but thinking about life passing by while you are just thinking about life seems sad to me.
You chose a great piece that seems to fit perfectly into Fitz’s criteria of “something you’d recite on your deathbed.” Your tone fits well with the mood of your poem, and you matched your images to your poem ably.

I found that your iMovie was extremely entertaining due to the great choice of images as well as great pronunciation of your piece of literature. Your literary analysis was quite detailed and reinforced your ongoing theme of the good and the bad of loneliness. I enjoyed your reflection because of how you really went in depth about what the poem means to you and why you chose it. Good work!

I really liked the poem choice. Also I like how you said how being alone can help, and hurt. I think this is very true and it was well worded.

Nice Job on this Jake. When presenting you looked very comfortable and confident. I know you like the water and you did a poem about the water so I knew this poem really fit you well. Nice Job again Jake.

Great poem Jake! Your poem fits you well and your video was well put together. Your literary analysis was great and used a lot of repetition and hammering the reader over the head.
