If

By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
 And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

If by Rudyard Kipling

How to be successful in life

    If you fall, get right back up. If by Rudyard Kipling will turn you from being a little boy, into a grown man all in one poem because of all the determination in it. This poem is about facing challenges and being determined to overcome them. Last week I had a hockey game against the bandits at my home rink. This was a very important game because we have never played this team before and they are ranked ahead of us. “And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings, And never breathe a word about your loss;”. “If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster”. This poem is all about not giving up and always being determined to achieve your goals. That is why I love this poem so much because when something is hard giving up will automatically Give you no shot of succeeding. Being determined will help you reach your goal and that is why this poem is so important to me. I want to remember this poem for the rest of my life so when I face a challenge I can overcome it and be successful instead of giving up. determination is key in order to be successful in life.

Reflection

    I chose the poem If by Rudyard Kipling. I searched the internet for a good amount of time looking for a good poem that I like and would remember for a long time in my life, something that means something to me. I saw the poem If and as soon as I read it I knew this was the one. This poem is all about determination and keeping your head up high. The reason I picked this poem is because I love how its about moving forward even if it is hard too. Determination is very important to me because if you give up you won't be able to active your goal.
