“To Build A Fire” literary analysis

A literary analysis on the short story ”To Build A Fire”.

47D8569A-5DA2-4D8D-9D65-00E3E1E5F169”There is a very thin line between confidence and arrogance”

-Adam Peaty

Within every man there is always a little bit of arrogance, but sometimes that takes over. In “To Build A Fire” by Jack London, arrogance affects the main character (who we never find out his name) very severely. The man was told that he should never travel out there alone because of how cold it gets. The man didn’t listen and had to pay major consequences from less than 50 below zero temperature.

Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingridients of a truly merry Christmas”

―Peg Bracken

Whether you are giving or getting, the spirit of Christmas spreads happiness everywhere. I look forward to Christmas every year because of all the traditions that are involved. As soon as December first comes around, Christmas is the only thing that is going through my head. I’m listening to Christmas music on repeat, I’m thinking about what I have to get people, and I’m thinking about what I want to get. All of this brings me so much joy and happiness.

“The Gift Of The Magi”

Literary Reflection on “The Gift Of Magi”

Christmas gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect on the important things around us.

No matter what struggles you have, love will find a way to solve them. I read "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry. The story made me feel warm and fuzzy inside and make me realize how grateful I am for what I have. It made me realize the extents that love will bring people. I think the author wrote this not just to portray s heart felt Christmas story, but to portray “the true meaning of Christmas”. At the end of the story the narrator explains that the wise men, or magi, brought gift to baby Jesus, with therefore made the tradition of giving gifts on christmas. Obviously since these wise men were wise they obviously gave wise gifts. Della and Jim unwisely sacrificed precious parts of their lives, but since they gave from the heart, they are wise.

Literary Reflection on “The Gift Of Magi”

No matter what struggles you have, love will find a way to solve them. I read The Gift of the Magi by O.

The story follows along a woman named Della. Della is poor and cant afford a christmas present for her husband Jim. All she had $1.87.

One dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one's cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied. Three times Della counted it. One dollar and eighty- seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas. [The Gift Of Magi]

Della decides that to get money for Jim’s present she will sell her hair. The lady who buys hair offers Della $20 and Della accepts. She looked everywhere for Jim’s present after that. Finally she finds it... a chain for his watch. When Jim gets home he also has a present for Della. To get the money for Della’s present Jim sells his watch. When they exchange presents Jim gives Della combs for her hair. They both let love take over and sacrifice the most important things to them for the other, only to find out that the other did the same thing

Love can make you do the craziest things. The Gift Of The Magi made me think about how thankful I am for what I have, especially during the christmas season. This story really shows how hard Christmas is for people that don't have as much money. The fact that love can make someone do things as big as getting rid of the most important things to them so they can get someone for their lover is crazy. When I first started reading this I was just thinking of which story seems the easiest to read and the least creepy. I was soon to find out that not only was it a good story, but it also taught some really important lessons. The story of love between people who don't have much makes for people do feel really warm and fuzzy. Love makes these people do crazy things but it doesn’t seem that crazy to them. Personally I can’t relate to the issues that were faced in this story, but I’m am a very empathetic person so I really felt the struggles these people were facing. I felt really bad for them and I wish that I could have done something to help them. The Gift Of The Magi may be a short story, but the lessons and emotions are huge.

The power of hard times

When faced with hard times, you can either run from them or learn from them. I struggle with homework on a daily basis. When I sit down to start my homework I prepare myself to be working for a while. I have always taken a lot longer to do homework than my classmates. Instead of just not doing the homework, I come up with new solutions to help me out. On any Tuesday afternoon after a half day of school. I have fifteen math problems, one lab report, some reading for social studies, and some writing for English. I go up to my desk after eating some pre packaged microwave ramen noodles and watching some funny videos on YouTube. I am the biggest procrastinator ever so even if I have like two hours of homework it will take me more like 4-5 hours. Especially on a Tuesday because I feel like I have a ton of time that I can be distracted while doing homework. As a natural procrastinator everything takes longer for me. So on this specific Tuesday afternoon I had around four assignments. I haven’t watched any youtube since Sunday so I felt like today would be a good day, since I had extra time. As I’m doing my homework I keep forgetting to do my actual homework because I’m watching the videos. Because I chose to do my homework distracted I wasn’t done with it until about 8:00. After that day, I really kept conscience of my procrastination. I plan out my time before I start my homework with new solutions. For example, I do one assignment, the I watch one video etc. Having days like these are what help me learn in what to do better in the future. Most people think that procrastination is a choice, but as a master procrastinator I can say that it is something that just happened and I just have to learn to deal with it. Instead of running away from my struggles with homework I face them and come with new solutions and learn from my struggles.
