The Power of Imagination

Sleek and long as jaguars and horrible-whiskered, spitting and snarling, they would slink and sidle over the white back-garden walls, and the lynx-eyed hunters, Jim and I, fur-capped and moccasined trappers from Hudson Bay, off Mumbles Road, would hurl our deadly snowballs at the green of their eyes. The wise cats never appeared. (A Child’s Christmas in Wales, Chapter One, Page 2)

The Narrator and Jim are sitting in Ms. Prothero’s garden with socks on their hands, loaded with snowballs ready to throw. Both of the kids are scouting the area for sight of the wild, rabid Jaguar. Now all they need to do is play the waiting game for him to come out. In the Book, A Child’s Christmas in Whales, by Dylan Thomas a major theme is imagination. The book shows how the children have fun when they are outside with each other. They imagine hippos crossing the street, leopards climbing up fences and things chasing after them.

“I bet people will think there's been hippos."

"What would you do if you saw a hippo coming down our street?"

"I'd go like this, bang! I'd throw him over the railings and roll him down the hill and then I'd tickle him under the ear and he'd wag his tail."

"What would you do if you saw two hippos?"

Iron-flanked and bellowing he-hippos clanked and battered through the scudding snow toward us as we passed Mr. Daniel's house.”(A Child’s Christmas in Wales, Page 8)

Without imagination, how would they have fun. Just looking and playing with the same things every day, that would get a little boring. But since they have their imagination they make things more fun by using it. Like when they were throwing snowball at Ms. Prothero’s cats, they made it seem like they were known trappers trying to hunt down the wild jaguars. They use their imangination to help them have fun and kept their childhood lively. This story teaches the reader to appreciate the little fun moment you have when using you imagination. Although they were poor, they could still have fun, imagining things as stuff they arn't, like cats as Jaugars and there is hippos crossing the streets. They didn't need all of the Xbox and fortnite stuff to have fun, all they needed was each other and a little bit of sunlight to have fun. They didn't need TVs or iPhones, they could just use their brains to do all of that stuff. Throughout your childhood, you use your imaginatin a ton. Having a good imagination is the key to having a good childhood.

The sentence building techniques that Dylan Thomas uses is muscular verbs and essential details. He uses these not only in this part of writing but though out the story. I feel like every story he tells, just has so much detail and amazing words to go with them. He uses those techniques very well. He uses essential details the most through. He really tells every single detail from those story's that he knows and it really helps the reader understand where he is and what he is doing on the next level. This makes his story very detailed and easy to understand for people even younger than me. I felt that he uses the techniques very well. I hope to someday to be able to write like Dylan Thomas.

Imagination is what keeps the world fun for all.

The Power of Traditions

Traditions

Traditions bring people together. One of the traditions that I have is to celebrate Christmas with my family. Many people think Traditions are times to get things like gifts, food and money, but I think it is mostly about family. Having traditions brings people and family’s together.  It is a special time where you know you are going to see relatives who you haven't seen inn a long time. Its 6:00 am on Christmas morning. I am trying to get my last few hours of peaceful sleep, but then, both of my sisters come screaming into my room and start to wake me up. As I finally wake up to all of this screaming of, “it’s Christmas morning, wake up." Then they force me to get out of bed and get ready to go down stairs to open presents. After finally waking up, our whole family is waiting the stairs. My Mom and Dad are standing at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for all of us to get  to go open presents. My Mom, Dad and both my sisters  and I are all waiting for Buck to get ready (Buck is always the slowest one).  Then once Buck comes around the corner, everyone goes down the stairs as fast as possible to go open presents. Having times or traditions like this is very important, It brings many people together that normally can’t always be together. Most of the time I only see my family during special times like Christmas and Thanksgiving, if but if we didn't have these traditions, we wouldn't spend as much time with our family.
